RE: Country Coach Owner Conversation

All things mechanical typically have problems at some point or another, so the challenge is not so much to find the "perfect" coach (probably ain't gonna happen) but to find one where the problems are fixable. CC has outstanding customer support, which enables me (who can barely turn a wrench) to resolve many challenges without professional assistance. Your mileage may vary.

BFA of Chico motorhome barns, anybody know them?

A respected local referred me to this company in Chico, California. Does anybody have any experience with this organization? You may send to me privately if you prefer.

RE: off topic but

the "pipe with running water" sound is coming from the end of the house far away from where the city line comes in. Between where the city line connection enters the house and the kitchen and two baths there is no such sound. at the far end of the house, about 50 linear feet, there is a running water sound. at the street the neptune gauge has digital read outs for gross volume and a dial that registers 1 through 10 gallons. that dial is not moving; when we run a pair of faucets, the needle on that dial does rotate. no a/c is on and no water is running in or out of the house. hot water heater outlet turned off.

off topic but

stick house plumbing i hear water running at one end of the house. all faucets turned off. crawled under the house and looked under all the water lines; nothing, no water anywhere, no suggestions water had been there but still hear the water at that end. crawled to other end of house, no water and no noise either (and that is the end the city water line enters from). checked the outside too. nothing. what am i missing?

what are storage bay walls constructed of?

I visited the CC factory and watched'm fabricate a frame, but didn't hang around to watch what the interior storage bay compartment walls are made of. I'm guessing wood as both intuitive and that's kinda what it sounded like when i pounded on the carpet material covering the wall. Anybody know?

A couple of things fell off the motorhome (a wind deflector and a "dynamax" plastic logo. I was thinking to use Gorilla Glue; anybody see a problem with that application?

Meguire's vs. Turtle Wax

Tried Meguire's today. Seemed easier to remove than Turtle Wax, plus smelled nice. Am I missing something; I figured that Meguire's would be harder to remove.

when you work on your rv does it remind you of your dad?

My Dad took time to teach me a few things on maintenance and repair. When he passed four years ago I added his tools to mine; his all have a piece of blue tape so I know which are which. when I do maintenance and repair on anything I think of him, what he taught me, our times together. Good stuff. :) Sometimes I ask him questions but I don't know that I hear an answer.:h Does anybody else think of their dad or teacher when they work on their stuff?

cleaning and protecting seals at windows & slides

I searched this forum but didn't find anything. I even read my Livingston's RV Maintenance & Repair and found nothing. I think I am getting old, but with my last energy I want to finish a thorough cleaning I've started during my "staycation"* What do you use to clean and protect all the black rubber seals around windows, slides, etc. * Week one was an 700 miles trip to Hat Creek (Allen Radio Telescope Array for the co-pilot), South Lake Tahoe (Toby Keith for daughter), Reno (Fleischmann Observatory for you know who), and Pyramid Lake, Nevada just cuz we hadn't been there before. Week two is the staycation where I get to do some things I've been meaning to get to. When it is snow and cold for 5 months, you end up spending your summer time on maintenance.

RE: We just don't understand...

Given the number of horror stories one reads on MHs, I give high priority to quality and to being reasonably close to the factory to take there if there is a problem that the local can't fix. This goes new or used. If you do your own first echelon maintenance and trouble shooting, a good customer support line is important. What days and what hours can you get help. If you are looking for quality, I'm surprised you haven't inclulded Foretravel out of Texas. And not to be impertinent, but do Winnebago and Itasca products still have outside decals and laminated wood cabinets?

RE: Diesel is CHEAP now....Ya ...right!

we live and travel in remote areas. diesel price at home is $ 4.65; on our trip we saw it at about that all over northern california and northern nevada. lowest was $ 4.49 (cash) and $ 5.50 at Cedarville, Modoc County, CA (of course, if you needed fuel in Cedarville you would not try to make the next town).

RE: Mileage on Diesel pushers

we have a 36' country coach towing a honda crv. just finished trip through northern california and nevada, climbing the sierra nevada mountains and going up and down hills and plateaus. cruise control on flat, my judgment on hills. typically we don't exceed 55 mph. we got about 8.5 miles per gallon; we would have done better on the flat, but no such thing up here. the old saw probably remains painfully true, if you have to ask how much, you probably shouldn't but it.

mr. clean autodry refill filter

What is the current best price available? Sears shows $ 2.97, but won't sell at that price. Amazon has a four pack for just under $ 20.

dead bug adhesion reduction

Does anybody use windowwax (replaced the old glasswax) or a similar product on their front window to reduce dead bug adhesion? I use dryer papers to clean, but less bug adhesion is devoutedly to be wished.

valvoline 15w40 premium blue diesel motor oil

this product is apparently recently reformulated to meet fleet standards. near as i can figure, the cost went down significantly (this is counter intuitive) but I swear that this spring it cost something like $ 12 per quart and now costs that per gallon. What am I missing?

Mr. Clean auto dry

Reading this forum convinced me to try this product, which is a great labor saver for motorhome, truck and car. However, as always, it is the filter replacement that really hits the pocketbook. Where is the cheapest place to buy filters refills?

suggestions on how to narrow screws holes

Some of the screws holding the lock cover to the inside of the fiberglass storage doors have worked loose and worked the holes wider. After kicking themselves for failing to tighten the screws earlier, what do folks use to "narrow" the holes so the new screws get some bite? I was thinking just a little dab of caulk.
